Nigeria Finds Omicron Variant in October Test Sample

Nigeria reports that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been found in an October test sample.

 

The new information suggests the variant may have been doing the rounds before the first case was discovered in South Africa weeks later.

The person infected in October belonged to a group of travellers. The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has not released any further details about this individual.

The variant has also been identified in two travellers who arrived in Nigeria from South Africa last week.
