Research: Almost 5000 New Crypto Coins Launched in A Year

Nearly 5,000 new crypto coins have been launched in the past twelve months. The Irish digital currency trading platform Cryptoparrot says that based on research.   In total, according to the researchers, there are now more than 12,000 different digital coins. According to Cryptoparrot, this is a response to the growing market for digital currencies and the increasing interest of major investors in cryptos. Between 2017 and 2020, there was also strong growth in the number of new digital currencies. Cryptoparrot says the market's growth is remarkable because there was only bitcoin more than a decade ago. The total value of all cryptocurrencies at one point rose to a peak of 2 trillion dollars, converted more than 1700 billion euros, according to Cryptoparrot. Incidentally, the rese...

Environmental Group Files Lawsuit Against Daimler and BMW

The German environmental group Deutsche Umweltshilfe (DUH) has filed a lawsuit against the car manufacturers BMW and Daimler, the parent group of Mercedes-Benz.   DUH is demanding that car manufacturers stop producing cars with combustion engines by 2030 in order to comply with the Paris climate agreements and German climate legislation. At the beginning of this month, it was already announced that the climate club was threatening a lawsuit. The charges were brought before the courts in Munich and Stuttgart on Monday, DUH said on Tuesday. A case against the German oil and gas company Wintershall Dea is still pending. A case can also be brought against Volkswagen. The lawsuits would be modelled on the case that was filed in the Netherlands against oil and gas group Shell last year....

The Vatican Demands Corona Pass from October on Visitors

From 1 October, a corona pass is required to enter Vatican City. Every resident, employee or visitor must then show the pass that shows whether someone has been vaccinated, tested negative or cured of the coronavirus.   The EU pass and other foreign certificates are valid, the Vatican said. However, the police of the papal state in Rome will carry out checks. An exception is made if believers come to attend mass or other celebrations in Vatican City. They must follow the health measures.

Renault to Cut Another 2,000 Jobs in France

French carmaker Renault is cutting another 2,000 jobs in France. The company talks with unions about laying off 1,600 technical and 400 support workers between 2022 and 2024.   The French car manufacturer is in difficulties, partly as a result of the corona crisis. Due to the virus outbreak, the production of cars was temporarily halted, and the company was able to supply fewer cars. The shortage of chips also hinders the production process. Last year, the automaker announced that it would cut about 14,600 jobs worldwide and cut production capacity by nearly a fifth. Meanwhile, Renault is trying to accelerate the transition to electric driving. By 2025, nine new electric vehicles are to be launched, which will be made in France. This includes electric models of the Megane, Renault ...

Wall Street High Just After US Benefits and Retail Sales Figures

The stock exchanges in New York opened on Thursday without major price movements after the day's price gains. Investors on Wall Street are mainly focused on US benefits claims and retail sales figures.   That data can provide more insight into the state of the US economy and the impact of the Delta variant of the coronavirus on the economic recovery from the crisis. Retail sales rose 0.7 percent month-on-month in August, while economists had expected a decline. Consumers in the US seem unaffected by the advance of the Delta variant and have been spending more in stores. Consumer spending makes up the bulk of the US economy. Weekly applications for unemployment benefits also rose to 332,000. This is partly due to increased applications in the state of Louisiana due to the aftermath...

Logitech Tap Gadgets Should Simplify Meeting Scheduling and Attendance

Logitech has introduced two new conference room solutions, the Tap IP and Tap Scheduler. They enable employees, among other things, to view the availability of meeting rooms and then book them with the push of a button.   According to Logitech, the new Tap IP, a tablet-like touch controller, is even easier to install than the original Tab. This is due to the Power over Ethernet function, in which the network cable also immediately provides the required power. In addition, the device features one-touch control for Microsoft Teams Rooms for Android, Zoom Rooms and RingCentral Rooms. At the same time, Logitech is launching the Tap Scheduler, a display that can be mounted outside the conference room. Like the Tap IP, it enables employees to quickly view the availability of meeting room...

Hurricane Nicholas Made Landfall in Texas

Hurricane Nicholas weakened to a tropical storm on Tuesday after making landfall in Texas earlier in the day. That state and neighbouring Louisiana are now experiencing heavy rainfall. Bad weather threatens flooding and power cuts.   Nicholas made landfall just after midnight as a hurricane of the first and lightest category, with winds of 120 kilometres per hour. The power then decreased slightly. The storm will weaken; further, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects. The storm is currently moving towards the northeast with wind speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour. But, according to Texan Governor Greg Abbott, this is going slowly, which means that a lot of rain will fall in his state for days. The NHC warns of possible flooding. These can be life-threatening, especia...

International Community Holds Donor Conference for Afghanistan

Less than a month after the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, a United Nations-sponsored donor conference was held in Geneva on Monday for the humanitarian-stricken country.   It has raised a billion dollars, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Monday evening. About forty ministers took part in the consultations in Geneva. Others followed online. Guterres said at the start of the conference: "This is a precarious moment for Afghanistan. The Afghans face the collapse of their country," he said. The Secretary-General called on the participating countries to pledge money to avoid a food crisis. Many countries want to give financial aid, but at the same time wonder what will happen to the money. They, therefore, want to attach conditions to the aid. According to UN calculat...

Desi Bouterse Appeals Against December Murders Verdict

As announced, former Surinamese president Desi Bouterse has appealed his conviction to twenty years in prison in the so-called December 8 trial. His lawyer Irwin Kanhai filed an appeal on September 3, he confirmed to the ANP on Friday.   On August 30, the Surinamese court-martial again sentenced 75-year-old Bouterse to twenty years in prison for his involvement in the murder of fifteen political opponents in 1982. This sentence is the same as that of the end of 2019. Because Bouterse was never present during that trial, he was arrested. He was convicted in absentia. He then filed an opposition, forcing the court-martial to hear his case again this year. He also had the opportunity to appeal. It is not yet known when the judge will hear the appeal. The Court of Justice will set a d...

Shell: The World will Still Need Oil and Gas in the Coming Decades

The world will continue to need oil and gas for decades to come. That is the response of oil and gas group Shell to a calculation by think tank Carbon Tracker of the advice of the International Energy Agency (IEA) to stop using 'new' gas and 'new' oil to meet climate goals. Shell says it is already looking less for new oil and gas fields.   Shell expects it never again to produce as much oil as it did in 2019. However, a spokesperson for the multinational says Shell can make the biggest contribution to the energy transition by helping to increase customer demand for cleaner products. "More than 90 percent of our emissions are caused by customers using our fuels and other energy products," he says. Carbon Tracker calculated that by not opening new oil and gas sites, Shell's producti...
