Wife of Drug Lord El Chapo Admits Role in Sinaloa Drug Cartel

The wife of notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman, better known as "El Chapo," admits to helping her husband organize Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel.   The court in the United States can sentence 31-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro to life in prison. Coronel Aispuro also said during a hearing that he was also guilty of drug trafficking and money laundering. She also admitted to having played a role in her husband's escape from a Mexican prison in 2015. Even before the trial, the former beauty queen was expected to confess. She will hear her sentence on September 15. She was arrested on arrival in the United States in February. Wife of Mexican Drug Lord El Chapo Arrested

The wife of notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán was arrested Monday at Dulles International Airport in Virginia State, near Washington, D.C.   She is suspected of involvement in a drug network, U.S. authorities said. Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, who has both American and Mexican nationality, appears before a federal judge on Tuesday. She is suspected of being involved in importing cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana to the United States. In addition, she is said to have participated in two attempts to escape her husband from a Mexican prison in 2015 and 2016. Her 63-year-old husband, co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel and considered the most powerful drug trafficker in the world at the time, was sentenced to life in prison in 2019.
