The Ukrainian Fire Brigade Has Halved the Burning Area in the Chernobyl Area

The Ukrainian fire brigade has halved the burning area in the Chernobyl area. The forest fire broke out on Saturday and was probably started.   Of the 25 hectares that were on fire in the alienation zone, 10 hectares are still on fire, according to the disaster management in Kiev. The fire brigade brought in 120 men and a fire-fighting helicopter. Environmental experts are particularly concerned that the fires release radioactive materials from the site where the worst nuclear disaster in history occurred 34 years ago. Still, authorities assure that there is no increased radiation in the inhabited areas adjacent to the nuclear power station's alienation zone. The forest fire broke out on Saturday. Police suspect a 27-year-old is responsible for at least one of the two fires. The...

WHO: Africa Will Not be the Testing Ground for Corona Vaccines

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, made it very clear on Monday that Africa will not be a testing ground for a vaccine against corona.   He responds to rumours that western governments and pharmaceutical companies will test their vaccines against the coronavirus in Africa. A storm of online protest broke out in recent days. Africans are not guinea pigs, it said, no vaccine trials in Africa! Is or will Africa be the playground for the experiments of the pharmaceutical industry? It is a television debate on the French news channel LCI - last Wednesday - that stirs things up. In the debate, two top doctors discuss the effect of an existing vaccine against tuberculosis. That could also help against corona. Tests should provide more clar...

A Thai Man With Corona Spits Train Passenger in the Face and Dies Shortly Afterwards

A very frightening event in Thailand. At a train station in Bangkok, an older man spat a train passenger in the face. Then the spudger died a little later on a train.   When his body was discovered, it also turned out that he had the coronavirus among the members, reports the British newspaper Metro. The scene at the train station in the Thai capital is captured on video. The images show an older adult with a walking stick. A mouth mask dangles loosely from his face. The man stumbles towards the counter to buy a ticket. Another train passenger is waiting in front of the counter. The older man walks towards the waiting train passenger and spits in his face. After the incident, the elderly man passed a checkpoint where body temperatures are measured. According to the British newspa...

The US is Facing A New Wave of First Benefit Claims

On Thursday afternoon, the United States Department of Labor released its weekly figure for the number of first claims for unemployment benefits in the United States.   Last week, the number of applications in one week appeared to have exploded due to the first wave of layoffs as a result of the corona pandemic. Approximately 3.3 million Americans turned to the government for benefits last week, nearly 11 times more than a week earlier. The number of first claims for unemployment benefits has never been higher. The previous record was set in 1982 when 695,000 people claimed benefits in one week. Experts now expect the number of initial applications to reach 3.5 million. Smaller companies, in particular, seem to be walloped by the virus. US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said ...

The US Wants to Establish Hundreds of Emergency Hospitals to Fight Corona

The United States wants to establish hundreds of emergency hospitals to reduce the pressure that the coronavirus has placed on the healthcare system.   On Tuesday, about 16,000 new infections were diagnosed, bringing the number of infections in the country to a total of nearly 180,000. Due to the high rate of contamination, the US military is looking for hotels, dormitories, convention centres, and large open spaces to accommodate 341 emergency hospitals. Chief of the US military engineering department Todd Semonite said on Tuesday in the Good Morning America television program. The military's engineering department is already converting a convention centre in New York into an emergency hospital with at least a thousand beds. A field hospital is also being set up in Central Park....

Donald Trump Expects A Peak in Daily Deaths Due to the Coronavirus in Two Weeks

President Donald Trump expects the peak in daily deaths in the US due to the coronavirus in two weeks. The rules for maintaining "social distance" from each other therefore remain in force until April 30.   The president announced this last night during a press conference in the White House. He previously reported that Easter would simply be "business as usual" in the US again at Easter. Trump expects the number of deaths to rise sharply shortly. "If we can suppress the total number of deaths too, say, 100,000 to 200,000, then we would all have done very well." "Without measures, he thinks that about 2.2 million Americans could die from the lung virus. "So it is imperative that everyone adheres strictly to the guidelines." The president expects the country to be "on the road to r...
