Former US President Donald Trump has criticized the prosecution’s investigation into his former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani. “It’s very, very unfair,” Trump told Fox Business Network.
Rudy is a patriot who loves his country. I don’t know what they were looking for or what they are doing.
Authorities raided the office and apartment of Giuliani, who was formerly a top prosecutor and mayor in the metropolis in New York this week. They took telephones and computers there. Giuliani has worked as a lawyer for Trump in recent years.
In this capacity, Giuliani tried, among other things, to obtain information in Ukraine that was harmful to political rival Joe Biden, whose son Hunter worked for a large company in the Eastern European country. The Democrat beat Trump in the presidential election last year.
Authorities suspect Giuliani of violating lobbying laws according to the search warrant. He would not have stated that he was representing a foreign party. American media write that Giuliani allegedly lobbied the Trump administration on behalf of top Ukrainian figures.
Giuliani contradicts the charges. He accused the authorities of “double standards” by prosecuting him and ignoring “blatant crimes” committed by Democrats. His lawyer called the raids superfluous because Giuliani would have already shown willingness to answer prosecutors’ questions voluntarily.
