Nearly 3,500 new corona infections were registered in Italy on Friday, several hundred fewer than a day earlier. The official death toll rose from 575 to 22,745.
Daily death rates and new infections have been stable for a week and a half.
The current plateau is significantly lower than the peaks in March, with around 6,000 new cases per 24 hours. However, the downward trend is not as strong as the Italian government hoped.
Italy is number 3 in the world, behind the United States and Spain, with 172,434 corona cases confirmed.
Nearly 43,000 patients have now been declared cured.
