Microsoft Launches New Xbox Game Console

Gamers all over the world are faced with an exciting two-day event: American technology company Microsoft launched the latest Xbox consoles on Tuesday.   The launch is two days before major competitor Sony puts its latest PlayStation consoles on the shelves. The previous versions of the consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, were released in 2013. The PlayStation won the competition, with twice as many copies sold as the Xbox. Microsoft hopes to do better this time, but expectations among Xbox fans are low as Microsoft has delayed the launch of its biggest title, Halo Infinite, until next year.

DuckDuckGo Disappeared Among Android’s Search Engines

The privacy-friendly search engine DuckDuckGo can no longer be found in the selection screen for search engines in Android.   That screen works based on an auction: whoever offers the most money gets a place. DuckDuckGo criticizes this way of working because search engines that bet on making as much money as possible have a better chance of a place. The sustainable search engine Ecosia would also no longer appear in the selection list. New Android phones have been showing a selection screen since 1 March of this year. Google must do this to comply with the requirements of the European Commission. In 2018, the company fined more than 4 billion euros because Google would abuse its dominant position on Android. Own services would be preferred. Google holds a new auction by country ...

Data Centre Giant Equinix Hit By A Ransomware Attack

Equinix has been the victim of a ransomware attack. The American data centre giant reports on its website that several internal systems have been affected by a 'security incident' and that further investigation is currently underway.   "Our team took immediate action to resolve the incident and also reported the attack to the police. Our services will remain fully functional, and the attack will not have any effect on our support to customers," said a response from Equinix. The company further states that the security of the data in its systems is always a top priority and that, based on the research results, it will take "all necessary steps."

Google is Asking Permission to Test New Wireless Technology

In an application to the American telecom regulator FCC, Google requests permission to use spectrum for possible new mobile broadband services.   The document was available for inspection by Business Insider and stated that Google wants to conduct wireless broadband tests in the 6GHz spectrum. It is requesting permission to test this in 17 states of the US. These are experiments, although technical details are not available because the document has been edited for commercial and competitive reasons. But it is generally expected to be technology to enable wireless internet. Google does promise not to cause harmful interference to other users. The FCC recently released spectrum in the US in the 6GHz spectrum that can be used for 5G, inter-vehicle connections or IoT. In itself, 6G...

Uber Again Bleeds Nearly Two Billion

In its results, Uber has to record $ 1.8 billion in loss after a corona quarter. Only the company's home delivery services are doing well.   Delivery services doubled for Uber in the past quarter, while ride services were down 75 percent. In itself, this is not surprising for a quarter in which large parts of the world were in 'lockdown', but the order of magnitude remains striking. Revenues from Uber's rideshare service decreased from $ 12.2 billion in the same quarter last year to $ 3 billion this year. That could not be made up for by booming delivery services. Revenues from home deliveries did double, from $ 3.4 billion to $ 7 billion in the past quarter. In total, the company records $ 1.8 billion in losses. However, that is 'normal' for Uber. Not counting expenses for sign...

Human Rights Organizations: Facebook CEO Does Not Understand

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains behind his decision to post a controversial message from President Donald Trump without comment on the platform, even after consulting human rights organizations.   Zuckerberg met for an hour with leaders from, among others, Color of Change, which represents the interests of the African American population in the United States. The organizations find that Facebook's attitude hurts black Americans. The talks were about Trump's message that "when the looting starts, the shooting begins," responding to the riots in the United States after George Floyd died in Minneapolis. That message also caused outrage among Facebook staff. Numerous employees resigned on Monday in protest from Facebook. They demand, among other things, that new policies be int...

Apple is the Most Abused Brand for Phishing Attempts

Apple was the original brand targeted by cybercriminals in the first quarter of 2020. Ten percent of all phishing attempts related to the American technology giant.   This is evident from the Brand Phishing report by security company Check Point. In a fire phishing attack, criminals try to emulate the official website of a well-known brand. They often use a similar domain name or URL for this (sometimes with just a letter or character difference), and the web page design is identical to the real site. The fake site often contains a form intended to steal users' personal or fraud-sensitive data.

Significantly Fewer Smartphones Produced Due to The Coronavirus

The outbreak of the coronavirus in China causes the production of smartphones to fall by an eighth in the first three months of this year.   The expected decline would mean that production will be at the lowest level in five years. Due to the virus outbreak, many factories in China remained closed for more than two weeks around Chinese New Year, where one week was planned. From this week on, factories are slowly opening again. It depends, among other things, on the location of the factories, whether that is allowed. For example, electronics manufacturer Foxconn, which assembles Apple's iPhone, among other things, was not allowed to open a factory in Shenzhen from the local authorities. The company must first take additional health measures. The measures to prevent the virus from ...

Twitter Blocks News Blog after Fake Coronavirus Messages

Twitter has permanently banned the Zero Hedge financial news blog from its messaging platform. That happened after the American website published a fake article about the coronavirus, in which a Chinese scientist was linked to the virus's outbreak.   According to Reuters, the article in question contained unsubstantiated allegations against a scientist from the city of Wuhan, where the epidemic broke out. It would have created the coronavirus intending to turn it into a biological weapon. The article was titled: "Is this the man behind the worldwide spread of the coronavirus?" The article also released the name and contact details of the scientist - information that was fully shared in no time. Readers of the report were also suggested to visit the researcher at the Wuhan Virologi...
