Unilever Changes Name Controversial India Cream to Glow & Lovely

Unilever’s Indian division is changing the name of its whitening face cream Fair & Lovely to Glow Lovely. The male variant of the product will be modified to Glow & Handsome.

 

Unilever previously announced that it would change the name of the product because it no longer fits the current era.

The use of the words “fair,” “white” and “light” on the cream packaging and in advertisements erroneously suggests a unique beauty ideal, according to Unilever.

That must be different, the company concluded amid the heated debate about racism.

The whitening skin creams, as well as other brands that are racially stereotyped, are under attack worldwide.

Opponents point out that such products suggest that white is better than black. A range of other companies has already announced name changes.
