Palestinians have massively demonstrated against Israeli plans to annex parts of the West Bank. Thousands of protesters with Palestinian flags and protest signs gathered in Gaza City.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government had cited July 1 as the date it could begin implementing the peace plan of President Donald Trump.
This provides for the annexation of certain areas by Israel and, in principle, also for the formation of a Palestinian state.
However, the Palestinians see nothing in the proposal, which is also internationally sensitive.
In addition to the significant protest in the Gaza Strip, people also took to the streets in cities like Ramallah and Jericho in the West Bank.
There were also some left-wing Israeli politicians present who are against annexation.
It is still unclear on what term Netanyahu will come up with a concrete proposal. His office says it is still talking to US and Israeli officials.
Further consultations are planned in the coming days.
