Negotiation of Import Tariffs for US and Europe is at a Standstill

US and EU Worried about Russian Troop Movements at Border with Ukraine

Negotiation of Import Tariffs for US and Europe is at a Standstill. There are currently no negotiations between the United States and the European Union. Possibly there will be new measures in mid-July to limit the impact of US import duties, reports Citi News.

It is up to the European member states to take steps, according to European Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on Tuesday. Coming Thursday, they have a consultation on trade policy.

The European Commissioner also emphasised that it was clear to the American government that the European Union would strike back with its import tariffs. On Monday it was announced that Harley-Davidson would move production abroad to bypass the higher European import tariffs on engines.

Malmström calls it logical that American companies and consumers will eventually put the American government under pressure to stop the additional import tariffs on steel and aluminium.
