The AstraZeneca corona vaccine can be administered to all adult Belgians, including people over 55. The Belgian Ministers of Health have decided that.
The Superior Health Council had already advised this earlier this week.
World Health Organization WHO and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) previously gave the green light to vaccinate people of all ages. Still, some countries decided to provide older people with other vaccines because there was little data on seniors’ effects.
It has now become apparent that the drug is beneficial for the elderly in, for example, Israel and the United Kingdom.
Germany and France, among others, are making the same movement and are also going to vaccinate the elderly with the drug of the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company.
The Ministry of Health asked the Health Council on Wednesday to investigate whether the AstraZeneca vaccine can also be used in people aged 65 and older.
