Instagram announced a new app for editing videos on the day that TikTok was briefly offline in the United States. The app, Edits, is due to be released in February.
According to Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, the app Edits is more than a video editing application. It is “a complete package of creative tools,” he states in a message on Instagram.
For example, there will be a tab where users can find inspiration for editing their videos. Concepts for edited videos can also be shared with fellow app users.
With this, Instagram is presenting itself as an alternative to TikTok. The app from social media group Meta, including Facebook, increased advertisements in Apple’s App Store this weekend. People who searched for ‘TikTok’ were greeted with a promotion for Instagram.
