Boris Johnson Announces Grand Military Training Program in Kyiv

The United Kingdom offers Ukraine to train thousands of new and existing Ukrainian soldiers as part of a “major military training program”.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson personally communicated this to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky when the two met in Kyiv on Friday. It is Johnson’s second visit to the Ukrainian capital since the Russian invasion on February 24.

The British training operation has the potential to train up to 10,000 soldiers every 120 days, according to a government statement. The British Army-led program should allow Ukrainians to “accelerate their deployment, rebuild their armed forces and increase their resistance”. Should Ukraine accept the offer, Western allies may also be invited to join the program.

The United Kingdom has now pledged more than £1.3 billion in economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including more than 5,000 anti-tank missiles, long-range missiles and self-propelled guns.
