Teenager Commits Bomb Attack at Russian School, Several Injured
A Russian teenager has attempted to bomb a school in Serpukhov, about 100 kilometres from Moscow. At least children were injured, according to the first reports.
The assailant also suffered severe injuries. His leg had to be amputated.
In Russia, there have been more attacks on schools in recent years. The interior ministry says the teen walked into the Orthodox Christian institution “and blew herself up”. It would be an 18-year-old former student of the school, where children are taught between the ages of 7 and 16.
A student said he was playing with classmates when the incident took place. “I smelled a burning smell. And a teacher said there had been an explosion,” the student said, according to the AFP news agency. “A door was blown down. Some children were crying.”
A police source told the TASS news agency that the explosive device appeared to have gone off too early. That reportedly already happened at the entrance of the school. The motive of the assailant is still being speculated. According to the Interfax news agency, the boy may have wanted revenge because he would have been bullied.
