Russian Regulator is Not Blocking Twitter

Russian regulator Roskomnadzor has decided not to block Twitter in Russia after the social medium has removed a lot of banned content.

According to Russia, Twitter did too little to remove videos with child pornography or drug abuse messages.

Roskomnadzor had previously decided to slow down Twitter’s speed until the company wanted to cooperate to remove messages banned in Russia. Twitter would now have deleted 91 percent of those messages, and so the speed is increased again.

The regulator warned Google and Facebook that banned messages on the channels of those tech companies must also be deleted. Otherwise, YouTube and Facebook will also be slowed down.

An estimated 3 percent of Russians use Twitter. Among them, Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny and his allies.
