The Republican leader of the US Senate accuses Democrats of exploiting the storming of the Capitol. As a result, Mitch McConnell will not attend Thursday’s memorial service where President Joe Biden speaks.
“January 6 last year was a dark day, but it’s shocking to see some Democrats in Washington trying to exploit this day,” McConnell said.
Biden will speak at the Capitol on Thursday afternoon (local time). The text has already been released. He calls on Americans to stand up against political violence and lies, and he will call his predecessor Donald Trump the only culprit for the storming.
Thursday, the Washington Post reported that no Republican Party leader would attend Biden’s speech. Trump had planned to give a speech in Mar-a-Lago at the same time as Biden, but he cancelled it.
