Popular Youtuber and streamer ‘Technoblade’ has passed away. He was barely 23 years old and had been battling cancer for some time.
The death was announced by his relatives on his YouTube channel. In a video titled “so long nerds,” the YouTuber’s father reads out a message from his son. “Hello everyone, it’s Technoblade. If you see this video, I’m dead.” The YouTuber is said to have written the last message to his fans just hours before his death.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported my content over the years. If I still had a hundred lives, then I am sure: every time again I would choose a life like Technoblade because those were my best years.”
The YouTuber became known for videos revolving around the popular sandbox game Minecraft. In total, he gathered no less than 11.2 million subscribers. An average Technoblade video was consistently good for 10+ million views. The farewell video has already been clicked more than 20 million times.
And while Technoblade was very popular in its niche, the man behind the avatar – a crowned piggy with a Minecraft sword – remained notoriously private. In the farewell video, he first tells his followers his real name – Alex – and reminisces about the one time he tricked viewers into thinking his name is Dave. In addition, the YouTuber rarely showed his face.
He shared the news of his diagnosis in August last year. He then said that one day he suffered from a stiff arm. Initially, the streamer thought it had to do with a lot of gaming, but after that arm started to swell, a tumour was discovered. He underwent chemo and other treatments, but in vain.
At the end of the farewell video, Alex’s father (Technoblade) takes the floor himself. “He was the most incredible son, you couldn’t ask for a better one,” he said. “I miss Technoblade.” He also had a message for his son’s followers: “Thank you to all of you, for everything. You meant a lot to him.”
