British Bank Accidentally Deposits Christmas Bonus on 75,000 Accounts

Economists: Brexit Will Cost the British Economy £100 Billion a Year

A British bank accidentally transferred a total of almost £130 million to 75,000 accounts on December 25. British media report that the Santander bank has paid out ‘the Christmas bonus’ due to a technical malfunction.

The outage occurred at 2000 business accounts where payments were made twice due to the outage.

The bank, which is a subsidiary of Spain’s Banco de Santander, has assured customers that no one has been harmed by the error and that it is working hard to recover payments made incorrectly.

That is not an easy task, according to British media, because many payments have been made to accounts of other banks and institutions. It would also be difficult to recover money from people or institutions that have already spent the Christmas holidays.
