Sony Expects Higher Profits After Good Quarter With Games and Music

Sony has revised its expectations for profit and turnover upwards because it expects to continue to profit from its games and music divisions.

The Japanese entertainment group is behind famous artists such as Beyoncé and Lil Nas X with its music division and earns a lot from music streaming.

Sony, which also owns many music rights, sold more games and music between October and December, during the important holiday season. In the past quarter, Sony sold 9.5 million PlayStation 5 game consoles. That was considerably more than the 8.2 million game consoles in the same period a year earlier.

The company raised its annual net profit forecast by 10 percent to 1.1 trillion yen, the equivalent of more than 6.6 billion pounds.

In its broken fiscal year, which runs until the end of March, Sony also expects higher revenue than previously thought. This should amount to the equivalent of 80.5 billion pounds, compared to an earlier forecast of around 78 billion pounds.
